Video of the Day: Estraven share new single ‘Safe Hex’

Friday, November 26, 2021

Odd-time palpitations, Eastern tinged melodies and full-throttle improv make up the sound of London based band Estraven

Their debut album 'Ignored Advice' to be released in February 2022 features all original compositions that stem from bassist composer Chris Hyde-Harrison's love of jazz, contemporary classical and Arabic music. In 2020 he was awarded Arts Council England's DYCP grant to spend a year studying maqam (an Arabic modal music), the results of which can be heard weaving through the new release.

'Safe Hex', the first single from the album incorporates a driving off-kilter bass line and bewitching melody as it hurtles through post-rock and modern jazz landscapes. Estraven features the talents of guitarist Alban Claret, saxophonist Duncan Eagles (Partikel), double bassist Chris Hyde-Harrison and drummer Matt Parkinson (Howl Quartet).

Estraven will be playing at: The Lescar, Sheffield (13 January 2022), The Hive, Shrewsbury (15 January 2022), Bebop Club, Bristol (27 January 2022) and The Vortex, London (2 February 2022)
