The multi-talented ensemble celebrates the hugely important work of the south London musical collective Kinetika Bloco on this latest release on Mark Kavuma’s Banger Factory Records
Kinetika Bloco will be celebrating their 21st anniversary with the release of Legacy on Banger Factory Records, out today Friday 10 December. “Legacy is a celebration of the vision that our founder, Mat Fox, had to inspire a new generation of young Jazz-centric musicians, many of whom are featured on the album,” says Tamzyn French, Kinetika Bloco’s CEO.
The group Nelson Mandela called “enchanting”, following their performance at Parliament Square for the unveiling of his statue in 2007, is made up of an exuberant mix of young brass, woodwind and steel pan players, drummers and dynamic dancers. Kinetika Bloco has created a unique new British carnival sound, drawing its influences from the Caribbean, Brazil, Africa and New Orleans.
Legacy features leading British musicians who have performed with Kinetika Bloco over the years, including Claude Deppa, Nubya Garcia, Theon Cross, Sheila Maurice Grey, Artie Zaitz, David Mrakpor and Reuben James. "We are a family. We rise as one and every past member has contributed in some way, shape or form to this recording and to the ever-transforming legacy of Kinetika Bloco itself,” explains Ruben Fox. “This story is still being written so here in this landmark recording we celebrate those who have brought us here."
