Multi-award-winning double bassist, composer and arranger Misha Mullov-Abbado  returns with his latest recording, Effra, which is released digitally on Friday 31 January and on vinyl/CD on 7 February via Ubuntu Music. A vibrant exploration of jazz, enriched with elements of classical music, samba, swing and minimalism, this deeply personal album captures Mullov-Abbado’s enduring connection to Brixton, the dynamic South London neighbourhood he has called home for over a decade.

The album features Mullov-Abbado’s long-standing sextet, a group of distinguished London-based musicians who have played together for years – trumpet and flugelhorn player James Davison, alto saxophonist Matthew Herd, tenor saxophonist and bass clarinettist Sam Rapley, pianist Liam Dunachie, and drummer Scott Chapman. Together, they bring Mullov-Abbado’s compositions to life.

The recording reflects the past four years of Mullov-Abbado’s musical and personal journey, with each of its eight original tracks telling a distinct story. From the bustling rhythms of London’s train network captured in ‘Traintracker’, to the heartfelt tributes to his marriage in ‘Bridge’ and ‘Rose’, and the vibrant energy of Brixton celebrated in ‘The Effra Parade’, the album is a tapestry of life and music intertwined.

Commenting on the album Misha said: “Effra is a dedication to Brixton, my home, and to the incredible experience of playing jazz with these musicians for so many years. Each track embodies different facets of my life, from the joy of connection to the challenge of self-discovery.”

The album is launched at Kings Place on 22 February – see the single video below and for more info visit www.kingsplace.co.uk
