Video of the Day: Squarepusher shares 'Tetra-Sync (Live in Tokyo, 2004)' ahead of Ultravisitor (20th Anniversary Deluxe Expanded Edition) LP/CD release

An album beloved of fans since its release in March 2004, Ultravisitor is one of the most popular records in Squarepusher’s discography. A distinctive blend of studio and live recordings, it’s a powerful showcase for the diversity of his music; from the anthemic title track, through the breakneck mayhem of ‘Steinbolt’, to the sunlit bliss of ‘Tommib Help Buss’ and the bass harmonics-laden melody of ‘Iambic 9 Poetry’.

For the 20th anniversary, Warp is releasing an expanded deluxe version – a limited edition one-time pressing, carefully remastered from the original recordings by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and overseen by Tom Jenkinson. Never entirely satisfied with the sound of the original release, Tom has relished the opportunity to bring out fresh dynamics and detail in the tracks.

The newly released live video from Tokyo in 2004 of ‘Tetra-Sync’ features Jenkinson in full flow on his six-string bass, merging incendiary playing, blisteringly fast slapping and live signal processing in a typically intense performance.

Bonus album Venus No.17 Maximised is compiled from material originally released as part of the Ultravisitor promo EP, released 26 January 2004; the ‘Square Window 3’ CD, a free bonus disc given out with WarpMart pre-orders of the Ultravisitor album and theVenus No.17 EP. The accompanying booklet contains photographs, posters and recording documentation from Tom’s archive. 

Ultravisitor (20th Anniversary Edition) will be available on 25 October via Warp Records. On streaming services, the existing Ultravisitor and Venus No.17 will be refreshed as Ultravisitor (Remastered) and Venus No.17 Maximised, which includes the original EP as well as tracks from Square Window that have previously never been available digitally.
