Video of the Day: Swiss vocalist Lucia Cadotsch shares ‘Azure’
Friday, August 21, 2020
The Berlin-based Swiss vocalist returns with her celebrated Speak Low trio for their second album, released by We Jazz Records on 27 November

With plaudits aplenty for Cadotsch’s first instalment, Speak Low II features the vocalist alongside Otis Sandsjö on tenor saxophone and Petter Eldh on double bass, and introduces guest artists Kit Downes on hammond organ and Lucy Railton on cello. Speak Low II takes up the baton from where their genre-bending and forward-looking debut album left off, with new tonal colours to the band's sonic palette, while still accentuating the stark, haunting beauty of the songs they explore.
The first cut to emerge ahead of the album is ‘Azure’, which is released today 21 August, was penned by Duke Ellington and Irving Mills, with this version featuring the core band plus ECM recording artist Kit Downes. Speak Low II also marks Lucia Cadotsch's debut on the Helsinki-based We Jazz Records.
