Saxophonist Trish Clowes and her progressive jazz-rock edged group MY IRIS, which features guitarist Chris Montague, keyboardist Ross Stanley and drummer Joel Barford, return with the first track from a new EP that showcases the first pieces from a whole tranche of new material.

The track ‘Brook’ was recorded and filmed in August this year, along with several other new tunes by Clowes, which will be part of a digital Bandcamp-only EP to follow later this month. The director of the music video is Will Darkin, of Intone Films, who has also filmed and recorded a cello piece of Clowes’s that was released in 2022, performed by Louise McMonagle.

This new MY IRIS release is just a fraction of the music the band have been developing recently, with more things on the horizon for next year. These plans include some UK dates in May 2024 with US trumpeter Dave Douglas, who is also Artistic Director of Greenleaf Music, home of Clowes’s  highly acclaimed album, A View with a Room. These quintet performances follow the playing Douglas and MY IRIS first did together earlier this year, at the 606 Club, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. For this forthcoming 2024 instalment, Douglas and Clowes will once again share the writing duties, creating some new material especially for this five-piece line-up.
