Wednesday, July 5, 2023
The acclaimed Dutch singer shares music from her forthcoming album ahead of its launch on Monday 31 July at Dean Street's PizzaExpress Jazz Club

Look At Me Now! is vocalist Wilma Baan’s second album release and feature 12 carefully chosen and sensitively arranged songs that continue to celebrate her deep love of the jazz repertoire, including classics such as ‘Oh! Look At Me Now’, ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’ and ‘Waltz for Debby’. “The Great American Songbook is and will always be a source of inspiration to me,” says Baan. “So many wonderful compositions, combined with lyrics that genuinely tell a story, each begging to be moulded into every thinkable arrangement – that’s my definition of brilliant, irresistible tunes. With such a treasure trove at hand, to say it was hard to choose is an understatement!”
Leading jazz UK-based musicians pianist Graham Harvey, double bassist Jeremy Brown and drummer Sebastiaan de Krom join Baan on the recording as well as special guests Tristan Banks (percussion), James McMillan (flugelhorn/trumpet), Nat Steele (vibraphone) and Nigel Price (guitar). Producer Claire Martin OBE says, "It was my great pleasure to be in the studio again with Wilma and her band for her second album. The songs have been beautifully arranged by pianist Graham Harvey. Timeless and classy, this album will I am sure attract and delight many new listeners".
Baan’s story is an inspirational one; she has overcome the challenges of living with a hearing impairment through her determination and musicality to produce another accomplished and joyful recording that pays homage to the composers and lyricists of these great jazz standards. Look at Me Now! is released on Friday 28 July in collaboration with ECN Music.
