The London rock-jazz-soul collective channel their love of Herbie Hancock on their latest single

London guitarist, composer and singer Ese Okorodudu and her floating collective, Ese & The Vooduu People, have just released a new single, ‘Vooduu Chameleon’, a fan favourite introduced into their live sets earlier this year. Featuring Ese (electric guitar, vocals), Jackson Baird (keyboards), Indigo Pearce (electric bass), Kissangwa Mbouta (percussion, acoustic guitar) and Carl Russ-Mohl (percussion, producer), the spacey single is accompanied by an evocative short film.

The video was shot and directed by Ese herself and Berlin-born, London-based photographer and film-maker Russ-Mohl and features cameos by members of the ‘Vooduu Nation’, drawn from the group’s extended musical family and fanbase.

Ese says: "Lately I've been listening to a lot of Herbie HancockHead Hunters and Mwandishi period – and spacey jazz as well as hypnotic, dense street funk, the kind of thing Sly Stone did and Miles Davis explored on On The Corner. 'Vooduu Chameleon' came about when we were jamming one day and Jackson started playing a vamp inspired by Herbie's 'Chameleon'... we all loved it and things went on from there. I've always enjoyed bold credit sequences in movies, especially those James Bond ones, so we decided to create a kind of Live And Let Die, 007 vibe for the video. It was great fun to make, and everyone put in heroic performances!"

Ese & The Vooduu People will be embarking on a busy live and release schedule throughout 2024.
