The swinging eight-piece share the lead single off their new album Live At Audi Forum Ingolstadt that’s released on 5 August on Ubuntu Music

Live at the Audi Ingolstadt presents the classic compositions and arrangements of pianist/composer/arranger Tadley Ewing Peake ‘Tadd’ Dameron (1917-1965). Considered the most influential arranger of the bebop era, Dameron is also revered for his original music, much of which can still be found in today’s standard jazz repertoire.

Drummer Bernd Reiter is the driving force behind the project and created Dameronia’s Legacy All-Stars to celebrate Dameron’s music just as the Dameronia Ensemble had done in the 1980s, using the original arrangements written for the large orchestras of Billy Eckstine and Dizzy Gillespie. “The general concept was to have an octet which provides many of the options of a real big band and at the same moment still leaves enough solo space for everybody,” explains Reiter. “The recording was made towards the end of a two-week European tour, so the arrangements were completely in place and the perfect ground for extended and inventive soloing by all the band members.”

The octet, an American-European co-production, consists of Andrea Pozza (piano/IT), Johannes Herrlich (trombone/DE), Dick Oatts (alto saxophone/US), Aldo Zunino (double bass/IT), Jim Rotondi (trumpet/US), Bernd Reiter (drums/AT), Jon Boutellier (tenor saxophone/FR) and Rik van den Bergh (baritone saxophone/NL). “I thought about a Dameronia-octet for many years,” says Reiter. “It was an incredible experience to finally achieve this, especially with such a fantastic line-up. The tour and the recording were a dream come true!”
