Sax/bass/drums trio Partikel are set to mark their decade together with the aptly titled fifth album, Anniversary Song, which is released on 22 July on the German label Berthold Records, sharing the first single ‘Catford Muse’, on Friday 8 July.

Co-led by saxophonist Duncan Eagles, bassist Max Luthert and drummer Eric Ford, the group go back to their original acoustic sound with a set full of powerful playing as heard on effusive opener ‘Catford Muse’ which is capped by a driving sax/drums face-off.

Choosing to record at StudiOwz, a residential recording studio located in the depths of Pembrokeshire, Southwest Wales, the location seems to have got the best out of the band, as Eagles explains: “The studio was fantastic and once we started playing all of this faded away and I believe what we have is our strongest statement to date.” The band launch the album on 9 August at Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho.
