BBC Jazz Awards revamped

BBC Jazz Awards revamped Moving to the Mermaid Theatre, this year's BBC Awards jump forward by three weeks from their regular place on the calendar to take place on Saturday 2 July.

Hosting the awards this year is the broadcaster Paul Gambaccini. Four awards, Innovation, Album of the Year, Radio 2 Best of Jazz Award and BBC Radio 2 Jazz Artist Of The Year will be voted for via phone and Internet polls. Nominations for Radio 2 Jazz Artist Of The Year are Clare Teal, Jamie Cullum and Ray Gelato. Nominated for the Best Of Jazz Award are Paul Adams and Lake Records, Liane Carroll and Michael Garrick. The Album Of The Year nominations are Acoustic Ladyland, Camouflage, Gilad Atzmon And The Orient House Ensemble, Rearranging the 20th Century and Tony Kofi Quartet, All Is Know. The rest of the awards will be decided following a ballot of 100 jazz industry figures and the results for Best Band, Best Vocalist, Best Instrumentalist, Rising Star and Services to Jazz will be announced on the night. Nominations for these and the winners of the BBC Lifetime Achievement and International Awards will be announced on 13 May.
