Jazz breaking news: 606 To Host Queensland Flood Benefit

Monday, April 18, 2011

Singer Sophie Garner is organising a special fundraiser at the 606 club in Chelsea on Easter Monday (25 April) in aid of the Queensland Flood appeal following the devastating floods that affected Queensland in Australia earlier this year.

In some areas such as Toowoomba 150 mm of rain fell in less than an hour, creating an inland tsunami with seven-metre high waves far too much for the Brisbane dam to cope with causing huge destruction and loss of life in its wake.

Some of the UK’s leading jazz singers are taking part in the 606 concert including Ian Shaw, Liane Carroll, Gill Manly, Trudy Kerr, Georgia Mancio, Natalie Williams, Polly Gibbons, Kaz Simmons and Kerry Hodgkin, plus others to be announced. Sounds like a great evening of vocal jazz and of course a great way to raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.
