Jazz breaking news: Ahmad Jamal and Ramsey Lewis to appear at Jazz FM Awards Show

Friday, January 18, 2013

The countdown is on for the inaugural Jazz FM Awards, which take place on 31 January at One Marylebone in London, with the announcement that Jazz FM DJ and multi-award winning singer Ian Shaw will host the ceremony.

The awards, held in association with Klipsch headphones, will also honour legendary jazz pianists Ramsey Lewis and Ahmad Jamal (pictured left) – the former receiving a Gold Award for his contribution to jazz, the latter collecting a Lifetime Achievement Award – and both will perform during the evening. Jamal will play a closing 20-minute set with his quintet, which will also feature a surprise guest collaboration.

Other artists announced to play during the awards show include an early set from the London Youth Gospel Choir, and individual performances from Ian Shaw and singer Cerys Matthews (also presenting an award) who will sing with the Jazz FM Awards’ House Band, alongside many home grown UK talents, while Suggs from Madness and saxophonist Coutrney Pine will also present awards.
