Jazz breaking news: Applications now open for 2013 Brit-Jazz shows at major US Jazz Fest
Thursday, August 23, 2012
The application period for the successful Made in the UK Brit-Jazz strand at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival (XRIJF), which was set up in 2008 to present the UK’s vibrant jazz scene abroad, is now open.
One of America’s leading jazz festivals, this important series of gigs at Rochester often garners great audience reactions – with additional concerts in such prestigious New York venues such as Birdland, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and Lincoln Center. This year saw event producers ESIP also present MinUK which saw 17 shows confirmed at all the major Canadian jazz festivals and a further 25 concerts happening in the USA. Artists that took part this year were selected from across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and included Get The Blessing, Liane Carroll, Breach, NeWt, Fraser Fifield, Osian Roberts/Steve Fishwick Quintet, Mark McKnight Quartet, Orlando Le Fleming Trio with Will Vinson and Arun Ghosh Quintet (pictured above left).
Next year’s Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival will run from 21-29 June 2013, with the other Canadian festivals running from the end of June 2013. All bands wishing to apply will ideally need to be available for the entire period of 21 June – 5 July 2013. Successful bands will be provided with flights and accommodation for the Made In The UK series as well as a month’s visa for the USA, during which time they are free to book their own gigs in addition to the Made in the UK series of shows. The closing date for applications this year is 30 September 2012. Completed applications will be reviewed by an independent and impartial selection panel in October, before final discussions will then take place between the Canadian and Rochester festival organisers and ESIP, with successful artists notified by the end of November at the latest.
