Jazz breaking news: Azymuth fire up Light as a Feather at Fabric

Monday, June 10, 2013

The renowned Brazilian jazz-funk trio, Azymuth (pictured left), are to play Room One at Fabric, the famed Farringdon club, in conjunction with FabricLive and Gilles Peterson, who will be providing a DJ set after their performance.

The show, taking place on 20 June, sees the first London appearance of the trio with their new pianist, Fernando Moraes, a lifelong fan and student of José Roberto Bertrami, the original keyboard player who passed away last year.

Revisiting their best-loved album, Light as a Feather, which included the hit single ‘Jazz Carnival’, and was recently reissued on the Far Out label, the new edition contains additional remixes and unreleased tracks from the original recording sessions. First released in 1979, the album was a big hit in the UK and abroad, and stayed in the Top 20 for two months straight. This London show will feature a full run-through of the album and marks the second of two UK gigs on the European leg of the band’s world tour. The Fabric date is a great opportunity to catch an updated lineup in a dance floor-friendly setting, which is a departure from the intimacy of their previous UK shows at Ronnie Scott’s.
