While the jazz scene has been dominated by the London Jazz Festival this month the focus of interest nationally throughout the year has shifted quite frequently away from the capital to important big city hubs of activity in Birmingham, with new festivals developing earlier in the year, and in Manchester especially with the Manchester Jazz Festival, which reached a new peak of creativity in the summer.
