While the name might be new to most people, several members of the group are well known players on the London jazz scene combining for the first time.
Door Mouse is distinctive first and foremost because of the presence of beat-boxer Shlomo, a big cheese indeed in world beatboxing having performed with Björk at the opening of the Athens Olympics, a performance subsequently nominated for a Grammy. Also active on the UK jazz scene – Shlomo grew up in the unlikely surroundings of Bourne End in Buckinghamshire – he has collaborated with a range of players notably with Seb Rochford of Polar Bear at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
In Door Mouse Shlomo teams up with his dad guitarist Jeremy Kahn who has written the music for the band which also features Phronesis bassist Jasper Høiby and for tomorrow night’s gig Kairos 4tet saxophonist Adam Waldmann alongside group co-founder flautist/pianist Katie Elliott. Music planned for the evening is from new album Door Mouse and a tour is on the cards for next year.
