Jazz breaking news: Camberwell Crypt Cranks It Up South Of The River
Friday, November 12, 2010
An unlikely setting for one of London’s best, yet discreetly located, jazz clubs, the Crypt in Camberwell’s St.
Giles Church in south London has been putting on jazz for many years but has now been given a new lease of life with the Camberwell Crypt Jazz Club.
Formerly known as Jazzlive @ the Crypt, it is now operated by Some Kind Of Blue Limited, a company set up to specifically promote and maintain programming of live jazz at the venue each Friday night, which follows on from the retirement of the previous venue manager last May.
Housed within a unique setting beneath St. Giles Church in Camberwell, the club’s flickering candlelight and darkened corners is the perfect hang out for Camberwell’s arty Friday night crowd.
For those punters feeling a bit peckish, there is delicious homecooked food available, with a three-course meal starting at £10, which complements the well stocked bar with an extensive selection of beers as well as a comprehensive wine list.
Upcoming acts include tonight Allison Neale Quartet with Dave Cliff; the Gary Baldwin Trio (19 Nov); The London Horns featuring Graeme Flowers, Graeme Blevins and Barnaby Dickinson (26 Nov); Green 61 with Craig Crofton / Dan Moore / Dan Brown / Tammy Payne (3 Dec); the Maciek Pysz Trio featuring Asaf Sirkis and Yuri Goloubev (10 Dec); and The Filthy Six (17 Dec).
