Jazz breaking news: Chick Corea/Christian McBride/Brian Blade Trio, John Surman and Paco De Lucia added for London Jazz Festival
Thursday, April 12, 2012
Following last month’s early-bird announcement of this year’s London Jazz Festival dates and the first headline names, including Sonny Rollins, John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension, Jan Garbarek with Trilok Gurtu, the Brad Mehldau Trio, Melody Gardot, and Bill Frisell, festival producers Serious have revealed the second tranche of festival programming, including a supertrio with Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Brian Blade, for what is already looking like the biggest LJF ever.
Now in its 20th year the festival, which is held in association with BBC Radio 3 and sponsored by Jazzwise, runs from 9-18 November and takes over the majority of major London concert halls, including the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room, the Barbican and Kings Place as well as all the capital’s jazz clubs. Tickets for the headline names above went on sale on 20 March and tickets for the latest additions go on sale on 18 April. These include: Shabaka Hutchings and the BBC Concert Orchestra (QEH, 13 Nov); Sarah Jane Morris (Purcell Room, 14 Nov); Marcus Roberts residency (Kings Place, 14-17 Nov); Paco De Lucia (RFH, 16 Nov); Chick Corea/Christian McBride/Brian Blade Trio (17 Nov, Barbican); John Surman with a new joint Radio 3 and Huddersfield Contemporary Music commission and a solo set (QEH, 18 Nov).
