While there are fears from international visitors that this year’s event will be affected by the no-fly ban, with any luck the situation will have eased by the time the expo begins.
Jazzahead has become one of the most important jazz conventions especially since the demise of IAJE and the decreased importance of MIDEM in jazz terms. Now in its fifth year the Bremen event has become a vital date in the jazz calendar for jazz musicians, record companies, festivals, clubs, press and jazz fans with a vibrant exhibition area, including a British Jazz exhibition stand, a series of conferences, panels and workshops, showcase performances that run right through the day and a jazz record fair.
John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension headline at Jazzahead’s main music theatre on 23 April while the Kulturzentrum Schlachtof presents an Overseas Night on 22 April showcasing groups from Canada, the USA and Korea and on 23 and 24 April the venue presents four new European groups each night.
A major feature of Jazzahead is the German Jazz meeting, that showcases a dozen fast rising German groups over two days and this year includes performances from the Julia Hülsmann Trio and Michael Wollny with Tamar Halperin.
