The festival presents three Scottish exclusives: a tenor sax celebration with American star Eric Alexander and leading London player Dave O’Higgins; a one off UK show by the well-regarded European pianist Jacob Karlzon, and a rare UK visit for trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz playing a late night session with Aberdeen tenor sax star Gary Gibbs.
Two concerts delve into the history of the music – saxophonist Alan Barnes joins the Ken Mathieson Classic Jazz Orchestra to play the music of Benny Carter, while trumpeter Colin Steele takes on the music of Cannonball and Nat Adderley.
Festival gigs (all taking place at the Blue Lamp) include: Eric Alexander & Dave O’Higgins Quintet (10 March); Jacob Karlzon Trio (11 March); Graeme Stephen Sextet (12 March); El Salson (12 March); Alan Barnes & Ken Mathieson Classic Jazz Orchestra (13 March); Garry Gibb Quartet featuring Anders Bergcrantz (13 March) and Mercy, Mercy Mercy (14 March).
