Jazz breaking news: Evan Parker and Omar Puente for Trinity Laban Inside Out Jazz Festival

Curated by saxophonist and ECM recording artist Martin Speake, the annual Inside Out Jazz Festival kicks off today at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, with a week of masterclasses running until Friday 21 June, talks and concerts with celebrated international artists and student ensembles.

Top picks include a special double bill of jazz at the Albany Theatre, Deptford and a recital and interview with innovatory improviser and saxophonist Evan Parker (pictured), alongside gigs from Omar Puente, Mark Bassey and Dave Hassell.

The festival will culminate in a central gig at Deptford’s Albany Theatre on 19 June will feature Trinity Laban’s Jazz Choir, led by acclaimed jazz choral director and composer Pete Churchill, and Trinity Laban’s Harmolodic Jazz Ensemble, directed by Julian Siegel and guest trumpeter Chris Batchelor, specially created to explore the musical philosophy of American saxophonist Ornette Coleman.
