Jazz breaking news: J-Sonics debut at Hideaway

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

A rather blatant heads-up for new London-based sextet, J-Sonics, who bring their own gritty mix of Brazilian jazz and urban funk grooves to the Hideaway in Streatham, South London on Thursday 14 March at 8pm.

The strong line-up features rising star trumpeter Andy Davis (pictured left), who leads the Ronnie Scott's jam sessions, tenor saxophonist Matt Telfer, who runs the Spice of Life’s monthly Yanagisawa Jam night, French guitarist Clement Regert (bandleader with his own funky Wild Card trio), top Hungarian jazz/session drummer Gabor Dornyei, bassist Mike Flynn and percussionist Jon Newey, the latter two it's believed are rumoured to be associated with Jazzwise.

Formed in late 2012, J-Sonics made their debut with a sold-out performance at the Spice Of Life in Soho on the opening weekend of the London Jazz Festival, where they return to play again on 2 May. Other highlights at the Hideaway – that was voted Jazz Venue of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2011 – include the weekly Monday night jam session with saxophonist Duncan Eagles; the return of Mica Paris (15 March); Bad Ass Brass (16 March); NYJO (17 March at lunchtime); Ray Gelato and the Giants (22-23 March); Manteca (28-29 March); Neil Angilley Trio (11 April); Ciyo Brown and YoLanda Brown’s Jazz Reggae Meltdown (13 April) and Brandon Allen Sextet (27 April).
