Jazz breaking news: Jazz FM Goes Nationwide On DAB
Monday, March 21, 2011
Jazz FM takes a major step forward from today when it starts broadcasting on a nationwide basis on the Digital 1 platform, alongside Classic FM and other leading DAB radio stations.
Since it relaunched on DAB in October 2008 broadcasting to London, the north west and the west midlands Jazz FM has built a weekly audience of 500,000 according to RAJAR, the radio listening figures body. Richard Wheatly, Jazz FM’s principal shareholder says: “We expect this audience to reach the old Jazz FM listening levels (when it was FM) of approaching one million listeners within 12 months on a national platform.”
In addition to DAB Jazz FM is on Sky, Freeview, online at Jazzfm.com and has an app for all four mobile platforms and iPad. The station has also been increasing its involvement in live jazz with recent presentations including Led Bib at the Purcell Room and the trumpet series at LSO St Luke’s featuring Henry Armburg-Jennings and Quentin Collins. So as the national roll-out approaches it’s worth retuning your DAB radio set to make sure you can pick up the station. – Jon Newey
