Jazz breaking news: Jazz FM Makes Efforts To Help Make Malaria No More

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Jazz FM will be celebrating its partnership with the Malaria No More UK charity this month with a weekend of African-inspired programming.

A host of high profile guests including UK pianist/singer Joe Stilgoe and US bassist Avishai Cohen, who are both ambassadors for the charity, will join presenters in support of World Malaria Day on 24 and 25 April.

Gerry Lyseight will be kicking off the festivities at 11pm on the 24th, playing everything from the desert blues of Ali Farka Toure through to the unique trumpet sound of Hugh Masekela.

Jazz FM’s Leo Green confirms that the station, which is currently the UK’s fastest growing, is “hugely excited about this important and life-saving partnership and to be able to harness the power of our radio station and passion for jazz to help make malaria no more”. Further to this Leo will be heading up a team of six brave Jazz FM staff who will take the plunge from 13,000ft, skydiving to raise funds for this worthy cause on 8 April.

Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive of Jazz FM points to the ‘tragedy’ of malaria among the children of Africa and hopes that jazz lovers across the country will tune in and donate what they can as part of this inspired initiative.
