Jazz breaking news: Jazz Stars To Play At Special Cancer Charity Gig In Wakefield

Thursday, April 7, 2011

A host of jazz stars are coming together next month for special charity gig in memory of Gemma Sykes, the daughter of veteran Wakefield promoter Alec on 22 May.

The impetus for the gig came after a conversation between Claire Martin, Nikki Iles and Arnie Somogyi followed by an offer from Claire Martin to do the gig to celebrate Gemma’s life and also to raise funds for charities Claire would have approved of.

Music for the gig, to be held at the Wakefield Sports Club on the 22nd, begins at 3pm and runs until 9pm, tickets are £20. All the musicians are foregoing their fees so every pound raised will be divided equally between two cancer charities. Artists taking part include Nikki Iles, Pete Churchill, Arnie Somogyi, Steve Watts, Winston Clifford, Tina May, Claire Martin, Guy Barker, Iain Dixon, Iain Ballamy, Julian Arguelles, Eryl Roberts, Gareth Williams and Mike Walker with others to be confirmed.
