Jazz breaking news: Kairos 4tet Sign To Edition Records

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Adam Waldmann’s Kairos 4tet have just signed to the Edition Records label, ahead of the release of their new album Statement of Intent on 4 April and a subsequent UK tour with dates continuing until June.

Their debut Kairos Moment was greeted with enormous enthusiasm, described in these very pages as “One of the most assured and melodically potent debuts of 2010,” and Statement of Intent looks set not to disappoint.

Having played with some of the most notable names in UK jazz, including Polar Bear, Clark Tracey, and beat-boxer Shlomo, Waldmann has developed a strongly individual compositional voice as well as a distinct sound in both tenor and soprano saxophones. Alongside Waldmann (pictured) is pianist Ivo Neame of Phronesis and Loop Collective fame, who, having released his own album Caught In The Light Of Day with Edition Records last year, is replacing pianist Rob Barron. Joining him is Phronesis leader and bassist Jasper Høiby and drummer Jon Scott.

Kairos 4tet dates so far include: The Stables, Milton Keynes (5 Apr); Brighton Jazz Club @ Komedia (8 Apr); South Hill Park, Bracknell (9 Apr); Vortex Jazz Club, London (13 Apr); Sheffield Jazz (15 Apr); Seven Jazz, Leeds (17 Apr); 11 HX7 Jazz @ The Trades Club (17 Apr); Jazz @ Future Inns, Bristol (1 May); Barbican Jazz and Blues Festival @ The Barbican (2 May); The Forge (Basingstoke) @ Anvil (13 May); Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho (31 May) and Stratford Jazz @ The Chapel (5 Jun).
