Jazz breaking news: Keith Jarrett back in London for rare solo concert

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

It has just been confirmed that iconic pianist Keith Jarrett is to perform a rare solo concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 25 February 2013.

His first solo performance in the UK since 2008, these events are one of the hottest tickets of any jazz artist, particularly thanks to the wholly improvised nature of each Jarrett solo concert.

Widely acknowledged as a master of both jazz and classical idioms, Jarrett’s 2008 performances produced the double-album tour de force Paris/London: Testament, released to huge acclaim, which comprised of music performed in both capital cities. This concert also comes in the wake of last year’s Sleeper, a newly released archival recording on ECM of his European Quartet from Tokyo 1979 – which came top of the Jazzwise Reissue/Archive Albums of 2012 poll. Another archival release entitled Hymns/Spheres – originally released in 1979 – appears on CD for the first time later this month, and features Jarrett on baroque pipe organ.
