Jazz breaking news: London Jazz Festival Unveils Full Line-Up

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Held in association with BBC Radio 3 the London Jazz Festival launched this year’s programme last night at the Brick House on Brick Lane.

Many musicians, media, record company people, jazz and music industry representatives were in attendance. Roger Wright controller of BBC Radio 3 told the audience how the LJF follows on from the recent Proms season and asked those present to “spread the word”, about the festival which has grown enormously since its origins in the mid-1990s.

BBC Radio 3 will broadcast extensively during the festival with further broadcasts also scheduled until next year. Claire Whitaker, a director of Serious, in her speech detailed the partnerships that are crucial to mounting the festival which takes place throughout London over 10 days in November. The festival programme details many high profile gigs at clubs and concert halls with new and established artists listed alongside big names such as Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Hugh Masekela and Brad Mehldau, along with parallel programmes of free entry gigs, masterclasses, talks and family-friendly events at a wide variety of venues across the capital. This year the LJF also includes a special focus on France, Denmark and Scotland with some key bands from the new wave of French, Danish, and Scottish jazz set for London. For iPhone users the London Jazz Festival iPhone app just launched is an easy way to navigate the festival. Click here to download the free app.
