Jazz breaking news: Manfred Eicher Film To Be Released on DVD

Manfred Eicher is one of the most renowned and celebrated record producers with a mystique around him that has drawn in musicians and fans over the years since he established ECM in 1969.

As the fascination continues a new film, which will be released on DVD and Blu Ray next month, follows Eicher and his musicians as they make music around the world.

Directed by Norbert Wiedmer and Peter Guyer Sounds And Silence: Travels With Manfred Eicher was premiered two years ago and has since been screened at leading festivals around the world. The film makers spent five years following Eicher and his musicians travelling to Estonia, Tunisia, Germany, France, Denmark, Greece, and Argentina with artists taking part including Arvo Pärt, Eleni Karaindrou, Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner, Anouar Brahem, Gianluigi Trovesi and Gianni Coscia, Marilyn Mazur, Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin, Kim Kashkashian, Jan Garbarek among others.

A companion CD with music from the film featured will also be released by ECM in July. – Stephen Graham
