Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Street-jazz, funk and eclectic fusion grooves come out in force at this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival with just announced concerts by Grammy Award winning bassist Marcus Miller (pictured), and supercharged fusion-funk nine-piece Snarky Puppy who are the latest big names to be announced for this year’s event, which runs from 15 -24 November and is headlined by Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin’s Remember Shakti and Stan Sulzmann’s Neon Orchestra.

Miller looks set to bring a brand new band to the Royal Festival Hall on 23 November, where his show will include an opening set from singer Carleen Anderson. Snarky Puppy continue their rise as one of the hottest crossover bands on the international scene, following a stunning performance at the recent Love Supreme Jazz festival, as they play Village Underground on  Sunday 17 November. Also added to the ten-day citywide event are Italian singer and pianist Paolo Conte at the RFH on 16 November and American roots singer/songwriter Patty Griffin at the RFH on 17 November.

The festival, sponsored by Jazzwise, takes place in all of the capitol’s major concert venues and jazz clubs and this year celebrates its 2lst birthday. Tickets are now on sale for all these shows.
