Jazz breaking news: Mike Gibbs and Greg Osby for Kings Place Whirlwind Festival

Whirlwind Recordings presents a three-day festival featuring the Mike Gibbs Ensemble and the Aruán Ortiz & Michael Janisch Quintet, with Greg Osby (pictured) guesting, at Kings Place, London, on 10-12 October.

The enterprising label, founded in 2010 by the busy UK based American-born bandleader and bassist Michael Janisch, celebrates three years in business with performances by 18 Whirlwind ensembles from the UK, New York and Europe.

Concerts include double and triple bills, free events and educational workshops and include: Thursday 10 October: Ollie Howell Quintet, album launch of Sutures and Stitches (St. Pancras Room, 6.30pm); Partikel Trio; Alex Garnett and Nick Vayenas Quintet ft. Femi Temowo, and Gareth Lockrane’s Grooveyard Unplugged (Hall 1, 8pm).

Friday 11 October: Rachel Cohen Group with Phil Robson, album launch for Halftime (St. Pancras Room: 6.30pm); The Whirlwind Quartet featuring George Crowley, Euan Barton, Tom Gibbs and Dave Hamblett; Konrad Wiszniewski & Euan Stevenson’s New Focus ensemble and Phil Robson’s IMS Quartet with Stan Sulzmann (Hall 1, 8pm).

Saturday 12 October: Jazz for Babies album launch (St. Pancras Room, 11am); Robert Mitchell solo piano ft. ESKA and Romain Pilon album launch of Colorfield with guest Logan Richardson, (St. Pancras Room, 2pm); Patrick Cornelius with guest Jason Rebello and Jim Hart's Cloudmakers Trio (Hall 2 4.45pm); Mike Gibbs 12 Piece Ensemble, Nia Lynn’s Bannau Trio with guest Norma Winstone (Hall 2, 8pm); Zhenya Strigalev’s Smiling Organizm Quartet with Jason Yarde, Andre Canniere Group album launch and the Aruán Ortiz & Michael Janisch Quintet with guest Greg Osby (Hall 1, 8pm).
