Jazz breaking news: More Pizza for The Impossible Gentlemen

Friday, April 27, 2012

A busy schedule at the Pizza Express Jazz Club this June sees Anglo-American ‘supergroup’ The Impossible Gentlemen set to take up an explosive four-night residency at the Dean Street club on 25-28 June.

Following on from their two sold out gigs at the venue last year, the heavyweight band features internationally acclaimed British piano sensation Gwilym Simcock, Salford guitarist and UK treasure Mike Walker and American bass and drums superstars Steve Swallow and Adam Nussbaum. The result is nothing less than remarkable with four unique talents, all superb players in their own right, coming together to create something bold and powerful.

The band’s appearance is just one of several strong bookings for June that also sees virtuoso pianist Dave Newton and his trio playing with renowned guitarist Jim Mullen and multi-reedist Stan Sulzmann (18 June). A fine pair of vocalists also to appear in the form of gypsy/roots influenced singer songwriter/harpist Lucinda Belle (15 June) and bebop styled diva Tina May (24 June). Returning from a European tour, maverick saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and his Orient House Ensemble (7-9 June) will be showcasing their latest compositions as well as exploring material from the band’s extensive back catalogue, while larger than life trad trombone icon Chris Barber and his Little Big Band also appear on 16 June.
