Jazz breaking news: Neil Cowley Trio Play In The Round at Ronnie Scott’s

Monday, May 24, 2010

If you turn up at Ronnie Scott’s next Monday or Tuesday you might feel your eyes are deceiving you.

Fear not, it's because for two nights only the stage in the venerable club will not be used for music but instead specially-installed tiered seating will be set up there while the musicians will be playing on a newly assembled stage in the pit area immediately in front of the area usually used for the stage.

When club MD Simon Cooke suggested the arrangement to the Neil Cowley Trio the band jumped at the idea and they will be the first, we believe, to play at Ronnie’s in the round.

One of the breakthrough British jazz groups of the last five years the trio – Cowley with Richard Sadler on bass and Evan Jenkins, drums – is touring their new album Radio Silence.

Further dates of the tour include: Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich (3 June), CBSO Centre, Birmingham (5 June), Royal and Derngate, Northampton (4 June) and CBSO Centre, Birmingham (5 June), Glasgow Jazz Festival (19 June) and Brecon Jazz Festival (6 August).
