Jazz breaking news: Oxford Jazz Festival Gets Underway

Today is the first official day of the Oxford Jazz Festival which runs through until Easter Sunday.

Following last year’s inaugural event the organisers have this year booked a wide ranging programme with headliners including Liane Carroll, Mornington Lockett, Pete Oxley’s Flight of Hand featuring Dave O’Higgins, Kairos 4tet, Clara Sanabras, BD Lenz and Kate Williams Quartet.

The festival will also feature a gypsy jazz strand to mark the centenary of the birth of Django Reinhardt and the festival is to host a youth jazz competition, Jazz Factor as well as late night jazz jams planned for the Big Bang’s Jazz Cellar.

Today’s highlights include Kate Williams Trio with Gareth Lockrane (Jam Factory, 5pm) and, Mornington Lockett (The Spin, 8pm). Tomorrow’s highlights include rising star Seb Pipe (Pizza Express, 6.30pm), Tim Lapthorn (Old Parsonage, 8pm), Flight of Hand featuring Dave O’Higgins (North Wall Arts Centre, 8pm) while Saturday sees Liane Carroll ((North Wall Arts Centre, 8pm) and hot newcomers Kairos 4tet are at the Bodleian Library on Sunday at 8pm.
