Jazz breaking news: Plummer Rises For UK Tour
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
The jazz-meets-twisted vaudeville of singer/wordsmith Andrew Plummer’s World Sanguine Report band heads out on a UK tour kicking off at the London Jazz Festival on 19 November and then nationwide through November and December.
Drawing on Messiaen, Tom Waits, Beefheart and Mike Patton to name but a few they’ll be performing music from Plummer’s critically acclaimed debut album Third One Rises with a hugely talented band that includes James Allsopp (reeds), Alex Bonney (trumpet), Matthew Bourne (keys), Tom Greenhalgh (drums), Dave Kane (bass) and Chris Montague (guitar).
It’s also Plummer’s pitch-black humour and darkly poetic lyrics that resonate in a highly unsettling way, with thrillingly cathartic results. The dates include an opening double bill with trioVD at the Purcell Room, London (14 Nov), The Cluny, Newcastle (24 Nov). Islington Mill, Manchester (25 Nov), Santiago, Leeds (26 Nov), The Yardbird, Birmingham (3 Dec) and the Arnolfini, Bristol (18 December).
