Jazz breaking news: Revoice! returns in style with Carmen Souza, Kevin Mahogany and Beady Belle

Friday, October 11, 2013

Jazz vocal enthusiasts are in for their annual treat when the fourth edition of Georgia Mancio’s acclaimed 10-day ReVoice! vocal festival returns this weekend and runs from 10 to 19 October.

Once more at the Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho, the widely acclaimed festival has, among other things, helped establish Gregory Porter in the UK (and indeed the world) and this year’s festival once again features a strong international programme of US greats such as Kevin Mahogany and Allan Harris, deeply funky Norwegian band Beady Belle, fronted by singer Beate Lech (whose latest album is entitled Cricklewood Broadway), and the likes of top UK-based singers Tina May and soul-jazz diva Carleen Anderson.

Other notable names include a debut performance from Portuguese/Cape Verdean chanteuse Carmen Souza (pictured), Argentinean rising star Sofia Rei, and Italian vocalist Barbara Raimondi who performs her portrait of Ornette Coleman set with help from top UK altoist Tony Kofi. Each night features unique opening sets from Mancio with a stellar cast of UK musicians in one-off duos, trios and groups.
