Jazz breaking news: Rhythmic Frontiers Festival At Kings Place Unveils Line-up

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

The ever inventive F-IRE Collective has announced details of its latest mini-festival which takes place later this month at Kings Place in London from 26-28 May.

The festival, which F-IRE calls Rhythmic Frontiers, is billed as a festival of music “from the edge” perfect for the collective which over the past decade and a half has consistently championed forward-thinking jazz and improvised music.

Headlining at Rhythmic Frontiers are Django Bates with his Belovèd Bird trio fresh from recent success at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, plus F-IRE favourites Jonny Phillips’ Oriole, Stéphane Payen’s group Thôt with Julian Siegel and Keyvan Chemirani, Tcha Limberger’s Budapest Gypsy Orchestra, and a F-IRE New Generation Band with students from the Royal Academy of Music.

The F-IRE Collective from 1995 onwards has promoted performance, recording and education projects with a membership of co-operating and collaborating artists. Polar Bear, Acoustic Ladyland, Tom Arthurs, Ingrid Laubrock, Basquiat Strings among many others and the collective won a BBC innovation award in 2004 with education work continuing under the watch of founder Barak Schmool and a range of new artists coming on stream including Rachel Musson, Oren Marshall’s Charming Transport Band, Newt and Laura Cole
