Jazz breaking news: Robert Glasper Stuns At The Blue Note With Surprise Hip Hop Guests And Gears Up For Ronnie’s Residency

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Pianist Robert Glasper was the talk of the blogosphere at the weekend following his Blue Note jazz club residency in New York.

Glasper who was performing with his hip hop angled outfit the Experiment was set to perform with rapper Lupe Fiasco, but was joined for one of the shows by Kanye West and Mos Def.

No stranger to star rappers and neo-soul stars (he has also been working with singer Maxwell and appears on his next album) Glasper will return to the UK where he has a growing fanbase for four nights at Ronnie Scott’s from 23-26 May.

Blue Note records has also confirmed that Glasper will go into the studio shortly to record the follow-up to his acclaimed album Double-Booked in April/May. One of the hits of last year’s London Jazz Festival where he was joined for an encore by trumpeter Terence Blanchard, Glasper is one of the new generation of jazz artists capable of bringing on new audiences and reaching out to the hip hop generation keen to dip their toes into some jazz as well.
