Jazz breaking news: Stanley Jordan, Richard Galliano and Jean-Luc Ponty For Cork
Monday, July 11, 2011
Over the last few weeks there has been an extraordinary amount of jazz festival activity throughout Europe.
At the weekend alone there were major festival shows in the French town of Vienne; Montreux in Switzerland; North Sea in Rotterdam; Gent in Belgium; Umbria in Italy; and Pori in Finland to name just some. But the summer season is not only the main time of the year for festivals with London, Berlin, Tampere, Barcelona and more just on the horizon in the autumn. Another of these, Ireland’s biggest festival, the Cork Jazz Festival, has just announced its early programme for this year following on from a highly successful 2010 running.
Taking place from 28-31 October with big name concerts in the splendid Everyman Palace theatre with extensive fringe and pub gigs as well, names so far confirmed by the organisers are Bobby Watson All-Stars (Triskel Christchurch, 28 October); Kyle Eastwood Quintet (Everyman Palace, 29 Oct); Randy Brecker and Bill Evans (Everyman Palace, 29 Oct); Harlem Gospel Choir (29 Oct, Cork Opera House); Stanley Jordan (Triskel Christchurch, 29 Oct); Richard Galliano (Everyman Palace, 30 Oct), Jean Luc Ponty Quartet (Everyman Palace, 30 Oct); and Marius Neset (Triskel Christchurch, 30 Oct).
