Jazz breaking news: Tonbruket to release debut album and tour
Monday, December 14, 2009
The first project EST bassist Dan Berglund (left) has undertaken since the death of pianist Esbjörn Svensson last year comes to fruition early in 2010 with the release of new album Tonbruket which teams Berglund with guitarist Johan Lindström who Berglund first worked with in the 90s in the band of Per Texas Johansson.
Also in Tonbruket are pianist Martin Hederos and drummer Andreas Werliin better known for his work with Swedish duo Wildbirds and Peacedrums.
Berglund’s album melds jazz and rock and electronica in a very sophisticated manner and is marked by strong melodic writing with a yearning lyrical sense which also characterised the music of EST but the new band also allows Berglund to explore art rock and metal sounds in a subtly altered manner.
Tonbruket tours in March and will appear at the Queen’s Hall Edinburgh on 13 March; QEH, London (15), Band on the Wall, Manchester (25); Lakeside, Nottingham (26); Sage, Gateshead (27); Stables, Milton Keynes (29); CBSO Centre, Birmingham (30); Queen’s Theatre, Barnstaple (31 ); and St George’s, Bristol (1 April).
