Jazz breaking news: Towner And Fresu Embark On Their First UK Tour Together

He’s not often in this country but tomorrow sees the beginning of the first UK tour in five years by famed US guitarist Ralph Towner.

Best known for his work with the group Oregon, Towner, who turned 71 yesterday, is touring in the company of Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu starting in Bristol tomorrow and conitinuing until 11 March.

The pair recorded their first recording for ECM in Chiaroscuro in 2009 and more recently Fresu, while not working with Carla Bley, has put together a new album for ECM exploring his Sardinian routes.

Dates for the tour are: St George’s, Bristol (3 March); Turner Sims, Southampton (4 March); Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh (5 March); North Wall Arts Centre, Oxford (6 March); Italian Cultural Institute, London (7 March), Djanogly Theatre, Nottingham (8 March); Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock (9 March); Purcell Room, London (10 March) and RNCM, Manchester (11 March).
