Thursday, March 29, 2012

Van Morrison is to play two shows at the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival in May.

Morrison takes to the stage of the Millennium Forum on 2 and 3 May. The festival, running this year from 2-7 May, is now in its eleventh year, and also features blues and gospel-influenced singer Ruby Turner on the bill plus cutting edge prog jazz trio Troyka, leading Irish jazz drummer David Lyttle known for his work with Soweto Kinch and Michael Janisch, Jive Aces, The Gary Cox Quartet, trumpeter and BBC broadcaster Linley Hamilton, Holby City actress and jazz singer Rebecca Grant, local favourite Gay McIntyre, Ronnie Greer, the Andrew Monk big band and the intriguingly monikered Kitten and the Hip featuring former Loose Tubes funkster, Ashley Slater. – Stephen Graham
