Jazz breaking news: Win a chance to play at Love Supreme Jazz Festival

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Organisers of the Love Supreme Jazz Festival, which takes place between 5-7 July at Glynde Place, near Lewes in Sussex, are offering the chance for upcoming jazz artists to win a place on the festival bill alongside the likes of Bryan Ferry, Robert Glasper and Esperanza Spalding.

The ‘Discovery’ competition will see the eventual winner perform on Saturday 6 July on one of the festival stages. Entrants will be shortlisted by a panel consisting of Jazz FM, Serious and Neil Cowley (whose trio is performing at the festival). The competition closes for submissions on 15 May 2013, and each submission will need to include:

• YouTube (or similar link) of one track being played live

• SoundCloud link of an audio file of the same or a different track, so the judges can hear a higher quality recording

• 300 word ‘covering letter’ with details about the act

The final shortlist will be open to a public vote via Facebook from 20 May to 2 June – on the official competition page www.facebook.com/lovesupremefest. The winner will be announced on 3 June.

The first green field jazz festival in the UK in years, major headliners include performances from Bryan Ferry and the Jazz Age Orchestra, Jools Holland, Gregory Porter, Marcus Miller, Branford Marsalis Quartet, Melody Gardot, Esperanza Spalding, Courtney Pine, Robert Glasper Experiment and Chic feat. Nile Rogers among many others. Love Supreme will have four stages (a main stage, a unique green-field festival floored and seated Jazz big top, a ‘Discovery’ stage and a dance tent) which organisers hope “will provide a diverse repertoire to engage the most serious jazz fan and general music lovers alike.”

Differing from other UK city based jazz festivals, just one ticket to the Love Supreme Jazz Festival will give fans access to all of the music provided on all four stages: over 40 acts, three days, for one price. The event will feature international food stalls, family activities, camping and a wide range of core, crossover and cutting edge jazz artists to compliment the main stage headliners.
