Jazz breaking news: Win a pair of tickets for Robert Glasper Experiment and José James at iTunes Festival 2012

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

This month some of the biggest names in music are appearing at Camden Town’s iconic Roundhouse venue as part of 30 nights of live music at the iTunes Festival 2012.

And this Sunday, 23 September, sees Blue Note Records present an exciting double bill of hip hop-influenced pianist/producer Robert Glasper and his Experiment band, with support from singing star José James (pictured left), who will be performing material from his forthcoming debut album on Blue Note, No Beginning No End. Jazzwise is extremely pleased to be able to offer 20-pairs of tickets for the first 20 correct answers to the competition question below.

Glasper is an increasingly influential force at Blue Note with his own widely acclaimed album Black Radio bringing together jazz, rap, hip hop and soul. He’s also produced guitarist Lionel Loueke’s new album, Heritage, and appears on José James’ debut for the label. No stranger to London, Glasper’s gigs in the capital are explosive affairs, and this appearance should be no exception as he brings some special guests with him. These include star vocalists Bilal and Lalah Hathaway (both on Black Radio), labelmate Loueke on guitar, rappers MF Doom and Phonte (featured on Glasper’s forthcoming remix EP Black Radio Recovered), singer/songwriter Alan Hampton (bass player in Glasper’s acoustic trio), and singer Patrick Stump of US rockers Fall Out Boy.

Soul jazz singer José James' debut recording for Blue Note is a smouldering, song-led set that draws as much on 1970s-style soul jazz and Gil Scott-Heron’s gruffly melodic material as it does the D’Angelo definitive 1990s neo-funk. Set for release on 22 January 2013, No Beginning No End features stellar collaborators with Brit bass legend Pino Palladino, and Glasper himself on keyboards, while James’ four-track EP It’s All Over Your Body is now exclusively available on the iTunes Store.

Fans can watch the show live or view it afterwards for a limited time on their computer with iTunes, by downloading the free iTunes Festival App to their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or on the big screen using Apple TV.

Jazzwise has 20-pairs of tickets up for grabs – to win a pair of tickets answer the following question. The first 20 correct answers out of the hat will win one pair of tickets each.
