John Goldsby - Bass

John Goldsby was a mainstay of the New York jazz scene from 1980 to 1994 where he recorded with Scott Hamilton, John Lewis, Frank Vignola, Peter Erskine, Eddie Harris and Bernard Purdie.

He has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Gunther Schuller, Lionel Hampton, and the Smithsonian Masterworks Orchestra and with Claude Bolling and Hubert Laws on The Tonight Show. In 1994 John relocated to Germany to play bass with the renowned WDR Big Band in Cologne, working with artists such as Gary Bartz, Phil Woods, Tom Scott and David Liebman, and with arrangers Bill Holman, Vince Mendoza, Bob Brookmeyer, and Bill Dobbins.

John’s books include

Bass Notes.

He contributes a regular column to Bass Player magazine. Currently, John teaches at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany.
