Katia Labeque on tour

Pianist Katia Labeque tours with her band (Dave Maric, keyboards and Marque Gilmore, drums) and special guests guitarist Fred Frith and violinist Viktoria Mullova this week.
Labeque was a student at the Paris consevatoire and while there
specialised in the work of Boulez, Berio and Messiaen and later began a
performing career with her sister Marielle performing mith major
orchestra around the world including the Berlin Philharmonic,
Bayerischer Rundfunk, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland
Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus and the London Symphony Orchestra. Not
content with performing a purely classical repertoire Labeque has wide
interests in jazz and popular music. She has worked with French
saxophonist Francois Jeanneau's Paris Big Band Pandemonium and became a
member of John McLaughlin's group. Miles Davis immortalised her with
two songs on his 1985 album You're Under Arrest. She also recorded an
album with Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Michel
Camilo called Little Girl Blue and then went on to form her current
group which released Unspoken in 2003 for Unspeakable Records. The
remaining dates for her tour are RNCM Manchester (23 November), The
Shed, Yorkshire (24 November) and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London (25
November).
