Thursday, April 13, 2006
With this year's London Jazz Festival just around the corner the organisers have confirmed several surprise big names in addition to the line-up announced in Jazzwise last month.
Now in its 13th year the festival, held in association with BBC Radio 3
and sponsored by Jazzwise, has booked the Archie Shepp Quartet for its
first UK appearance in five years at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 13
November, Branford Marsalis Quartet with a special performance of
Coltrane's A Love Supreme at the QEH on 15 November and two Harry
Connick Jr/Branford Marsalis duo performances at the Shaw Theatre on 16
and 18 November. And continuing the theme of big bands and large
ensembles that constitutes a major strand of this year's festival,
including Italian Instabile Orchestra, Mike Garrick's Jazz Britannia
Big Band, Vienna Art Orchestra, Maria Schneider Orchestra and Gerald
Wilson and BBC Big Band, the closing night, 20 November, features a
Future Sounds of Jazz special with Gilles Peterson with the Heritage
Orchestra, Robert Glasper Trio and guests. Ticket details from
