Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Jazzwise

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Well, it’s that time of year when jazz clubs wheel out their annual Christmas residencies with the emphasis on party music and lots of Yuletide spirit.

Maybe not the most creative time of year musically – sadly you’ll be hard pushed to find any free jazz ferocity during the festive season - but people must have their Xmas frolics, as the Colonel likes to put it.

Jazzwise Breaking News returns from 4 January onwards but if you’re out and about at Ronnie Scott’s over the next week or so there’s Yuletide cheer with the likes of Ray Gelato, Liane Carroll and Gill Manly and a bumper New Year’s special – but you’d better be quick as tickets are going fast. Over the road on Dean Street at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Acoustic Alchemy are well into their annual Christmas residency and they line up with G-Funk for the New Year’s Eve special. At the Vortex it’s the return of Ian Shaw on New Year’s Eve for what promises to be a hugely entertaining night and at Chelsea’s 606 Latin-jazz stars Samara and special guests take to the stage for the club’s popular New Year’s knees up. And don't forget to check local listings for other jazz gigs in your area.

So whatever you’re up to over the holidays all of us here at Jazzwise hope you have a great time and we wish all our readers the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
