Musicians chosen for Take Five

Friday, February 28, 2003

The Jerwood/PRS Foundation Take Five initiative was piloted successfully last year and returns with a selection of eight jazz musicians chosen for the scheme.

The idea behind the initiative is to give some of the UK's most talented young jazz musicians the chance to take time out to develop their skills. Running until May next year the sessions planned for the recipients include talk time, leaning time, focus time, time out and creative time with one-to-one sessions and residential periods factored in as part of the programme. This year's musicians taking part are: singer Julia Biel, singer Mara Carlyle, tabla player Aref Durvesh, altoist Soweto Kinch, guitarist David Okumu, pianist Gwilym Simcock, pianist Dave Stapleton and trumpeter Neil Yates.
